Financing Psychotherapy

Understanding how to finance psychotherapy can feel overwhelming at first.
Therefore I created a comprehensive overview to guide you through different options and understand what fits best for you.

Your Options

1

Private Health Insurance (PKV)

If you have private health insurance or are eligible for state aid (Beihilfe), the costs of psychotherapy are typically reimbursed by your health insurance provider according to the terms of your insurance policy. In most cases, private health insurance and Beihilfe cover up to three initial consultation sessions (psychotherapeutische Sprechstunden), four trial sessions (probatorische Sitzungen), and up to 24 short-term therapy sessions (Kurzzeittherapie) without requiring prior approval. If further sessions are needed – as is the case for many people – a formal application for long-term therapy is necessary. This is a standard part of the process and nothing to worry about.

Our services are billed according to the German Fee Schedule for Psychotherapists (GOP).

Please contact your health insurance provider in advance to clarify the exact conditions of reimbursement.

2

Self-Paying Patients

Some people choose to finance psychotherapy by themselves for different personal reasons. If you choose to pay privately, no further formalities are required. The fees will be invoiced directly to you based on the GOP.

If you have any questions about the costs or reimbursement process, please feel free to reach out.

3

Public Health Insurance (GKV)
– Reimbursement Procedure

If you are insured with a statutory health insurance provider, psychotherapy in private practices can be reimbursed under certain conditions through the reimbursement procedure (§ 13 Abs. 3 SGB V).
